LaGrange Academy graduated 15 college-bound seniors in May
 
 
 

LaGrange Academy, an academic community of about 220 students located on Vernon Road, concluded its 40th year May 27, awarding diplomas to 15 students, all of them college bound.

 

“Our goal is to help students develop their unique talents and gifts in the context of our rich and varied program of academics, activities and athletics,” a school spokesman said.  “LaGrange Academy is committed to providing a superior education in a caring, cooperative, and stimulating environment, emphasizing strong moral and ethical values, while instilling a life-long love of learning.”

 

Several awards were presented to members of the class of 2009, including nine “TY” awards, for seniors who attended the Academy for 12 consecutive years or more.  The “TY” grads were Teresa Bayo, 13 years; Abby Child, 13 years; Holly Gooch, 12 years; Dagny Langford, 12 years; Molly McGowan, 14 years; Drew Middlebrooks, 12 years; Korie Mike, 14 years; Betsy Trotter, 12 years and Mary Catherine Wilder, 12 years.

The Scholar-Athlete Award went to Molly McGowan, a senior who earned a varsity letter in at least two sports, while maintaining high academic achievement.

 

The Headmaster’s Award, presented to the senior with the best attitude and effort, including academic excellence, leadership, sportsmanship, school spirit, and community service went to Betsy Trotter.

 

Brittany Hutto received the Student Achievement Award, presented to the senior who has achieved academic progress in grades 9-12 as demonstrated by his or her grade point average.

 

Daniel Yoon received the Alumni Award, presented to the senior who has attained high achievement in scholarship, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

 

The Faculty Award was presented to Molly McGowan, for earning the admiration and respect of the faculty through attitude and effort during the school year.

 

The Trustees Award was presented to Abby Child, for her special commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education.  The recipient must maintain commendable scholarship while enthusiastically participating in a variety of school-sponsored activities.

 

Mary Catherine Wilder was presented The Founders Award, given to the senior who best exemplifies the ideals set forth by the founders of LaGrange Academy.  This student has made the greatest contribution to the school community through leadership, service, citizenship, and scholarship.

 

Valedictorian was Mary Catherine Wilder, Salutatorian was Molly McGowan and Historian was Daniel Yoon.
