Media Center

LaGrange Academy’s Avery Media Center is a pleasant learning environment utilized by every LaGrange Academy student.   The library houses both Juvenile and Young Adult collections. Internet is available on six computers in the Media Center and the library book database is available on three separate computers.  The Media Center has a laser printer networked with classrooms and a scanner for student use.

Avery Media Center is available to students during school hours for spontaneous learning and checking out library books.  Pleasure reading is encouraged for all ages. Kindergarten and First Grade classes have weekly story time in the Media Center  and Lower School students come weekly for library skills classes. Teachers schedule research  and small group or individual project  time for Middle School and Upper School students as needed for specific subjects.

The Media Center has several projects during the school year.  One project  enjoyed by students and parents alike is the Scholastic Book Fair.    The first book fair is in the Fall and the second is in the Spring. Profits from these two fairs fund library activities and learning materials.  In addition to Book Fairs the library also sponsors two Chick-fil-A School Spirit Nights. A percentage of the sales on spirit nights is donated to our school.  LaGrange Academy also participates in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program.  Our LAPA organization chairperson collects Box Tops from families and friends. Proceeds from these box tops supports library media by purchasing equipment used in classrooms.

Students in second through fifth grade participate in the Scholastic Reading Counts program. Reading Counts is a software-based reading program that develops reading and comprehension skills as well as encourages students to take responsibility for independent reading. The Reading Counts program motivates students to read by supplying fast positive feedback and monitors student reading progress producing reports for teachers and parents.  Classrooms set goals each quarter. Students reaching their classroom goal points are treated to a Reading Celebration at the end of each quarter.
