Reading List for Rising Third Graders
Summer 2008

Students need to read at least two books over the summer.  Choose

books from two or more of the authors below.  If you read more than two     books, you will receive extra credit points for your fall reading grade.

Reading is one of the greatest gifts we have!!       ENJOY!!!!

Listed below are the authors. There might be some authors whose books

you have already read. You must select titles you have not read before to count for you Summer Reading credit.

Beverly Cleary – these are books of family and kids

Debbie Dadey – these are Bailey School Kids

Patricia Reilly Giff – these are fun books about people

James Howe  - Bunnicula Series and more 

Mary Pope Osborne  - Magic Tree House books

Barbara Park -  Junnie B. Jones and other titles

Donald Sobol    - Encyclopedia Brown books

Gertrude Chandler Warner – Box Car Children books

Assignment:  After reading the book, write a one-half page report telling if you liked the book.  Explain what you liked or did not like.  Also, tell about the main character and include if this person reminded you of yourself in any way. You might wish to read a book that is on the Reading Counts list so you can take a Reading Counts test the first week of school.  You can check the school website to find an up-to-date Reading Counts list.  The website is www.lagrangeacademy.org.  Go to “School Life” and you will see the tab for Reading Counts.
