Our Curriculum

In the Lower School at LaGrange Academy, our number one priority is to make our students feel welcome in every classroom and on every playing field so that they will take risks, ask questions, and have their desire to learn nurtured at a young age.  We believe in the power of play and creativity, which is incorporated into our early learning curriculum.  Likewise, we believe that daily challenge and elements of structure develop self-discipline, resilience and self-knowledge as learners, traits that are important to our students as they advance to the upper elementary grades.  Just as important is our focus on a child’s moral development, as we seek to nurture empathy and compassion in our children.

The Middle School at LaGrange Academy includes sixth, seventh and eighth grades and is designed to provide a bridge between the elementary grades to the college preparatory academic and extracurricular Upper School program.  Middle School students are challenged to build academic skills and critical thinking skills as they grow and develop through the early adolescent years.  The Middle School curriculum is a comprehensive program which includes classes in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.  Students also take daily Spanish classes, along with having enrichment classes with instruction in art, music, drama and computer.  Students are encouraged to individually excel and may accelerate in certain classes, especially mathematics.   Leadership and extracurricular activities are available to all students so that each student has the opportunity to explore and experience various activities, including fine arts, music, drama and athletics.

An Upper School college preparatory program with outstanding, experienced faculty is our cornerstone in grades 9 through 12.  LaGrange Academy provides every student with a strong background in math and science through our STEM initiative and also offers each student the opportunity to experience the fine arts of music, drama, and art.  We offer AP and Honors courses in a breadth of disciplines for students, and classes are designed to emphasize analytical problem-solving skills and critical thinking in all areas of language arts and math.  Our English Department emphasizes the development of the necessary techniques for complex, coherent written expression, and our foreign language courses are designed to  develop the listening, speaking, reading, and writing of a second language.  History and social science offerings guide students to become knowledgeable, ethical, and responsible contributors to society.  LaGrange Academy is constantly enhancing its curricula to keep pace with the ever-evolving needs of our students who will be our future leaders in a fast paced global world.
