Pre-K

So much more than finger painting!
Our classes prepare students to be ready.

While they will learn their letters, numbers, and the Pledge of Allegiance, our program goes a step further.

For most at this age, this is an introduction to the responsibility of conducting themselves when parents aren't around. Our teachers use positive reinforcement to help shape proper classroom behavior and to instill a love of learning. Our Pre-K classes are capped at 16 students, ensuring each class has a Teacher and Assistant Teacher.

Just because they are our youngest Warriors doesn't mean they miss any classes that enrich our older students.

A Day In The Life Of A LaGrange Academy Pre-K Student

At our Pre-K, we believe that social development is the foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. Our program is designed to nurture essential social skills in a safe, supportive environment. Students will learn to:

  • Complete Tasks Independently: We foster a sense of responsibility and self-confidence by encouraging children to complete tasks on their own. This helps them develop independence, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude toward learning.
  • Follow Directions: Understanding and following directions is key to classroom success. Through engaging activities and guided play, children will practice listening attentively, following multi-step instructions, and respecting classroom routines.
  • Play Well with Others: Social interactions are a vital part of early childhood development. Through group play and collaborative projects, children will learn to share, take turns, express themselves, and resolve conflicts with kindness and empathy.

We believe these early social skills are crucial for building strong relationships and preparing students for success in future academic and personal endeavors. Our Pre-K program provides the perfect balance of structured learning and creative exploration to help children thrive socially and emotionally.

Our Pre-K program provides a strong academic foundation for young learners through engaging, hands-on activities that make learning fun and meaningful. We focus on key learning objectives to ensure students are well-prepared for the next steps in their educational journey:

  • Identify All Letters and Their Sounds: Early literacy begins with letter recognition. Our students will learn to identify each letter of the alphabet and understand the corresponding sounds, setting the stage for solid reading skills.
  • Recognize Colors: Understanding and naming colors is important to early learning. Through creative art projects, games, and interactive lessons, students will confidently recognize and name various colors.
  • Identify Shapes: By exploring and identifying different shapes, children will enhance their spatial awareness and critical thinking skills, which are essential for math and problem-solving.
  • Count to 100: We help children develop foundational math skills by teaching them to count confidently from 1 to 100, using interactive counting activities and number games.
  • Count by 10s to 100: Besides basic counting, students will learn how to skip counting by 10s to 100, a crucial step in understanding number patterns and preparing for more advanced math concepts.
  • Identify Patterns: Recognizing and creating patterns is key to early math skills. Our Pre-K program teaches children to identify and understand patterns, building a foundation for logical thinking and problem-solving.

Our learning objectives are designed to make learning enjoyable and rewarding. By the time our students complete Pre-K, they are well-prepared for the challenges of kindergarten and beyond, equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.

At our Pre-K, we believe in nurturing the whole child by offering a range of enriching classes that go beyond traditional academics. These extra classes are designed to inspire creativity, foster physical development, and instill a lifelong love of learning. Our students will participate in:

  • Art: Through hands-on art activities, children will explore various materials, techniques, and forms of creative expression. Art class encourages imagination, builds fine motor skills, and helps students develop confidence in their creativity.
  • Drama: In drama class, students will engage in role-playing, storytelling, and imaginative play. These activities promote communication, self-expression, and social skills while helping children gain confidence in front of an audience.
  • Music: Our music program introduces children to rhythm, melody, and various musical instruments. Through singing, movement, and listening activities, students will develop an appreciation for music while enhancing their auditory and motor skills.
  • Physical Education (PE): PE class focuses on physical development, coordination, and teamwork. Through fun, age-appropriate activities and games, students will build strength, balance, and cooperation skills, laying the groundwork for a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Library: In library class, children will be introduced to the joy of reading and exploring books. Students will develop early literacy skills, learn how to navigate a library, and foster a love of stories and learning.

These extra classes are an essential part of creating well-rounded learners who are not only academically prepared but also emotionally, creatively, and physically developed. Our comprehensive Pre-K curriculum ensures that every child is supported in discovering their unique strengths and talents.

Our Pre-K program goes beyond everyday learning with various extra special-themed weeks that bring excitement and fun into the classroom. These unique events make learning engaging while introducing important concepts in creative ways:

Color Week: A week-long celebration where students explore the world of colors through themed activities, art projects, and special dress-up days, helping them playfully master color recognition.

100 Days of School Hat Parade: To celebrate the 100th day of school, students create and parade their own custom hats, highlighting creativity and marking a significant milestone in their learning journey.

Tooth Fairy Visit: The tooth Fairy's magical visit teaches children about dental hygiene in an engaging, fun way, helping them learn the importance of taking care of their teeth.

Dr. Seuss Week: This week, filled with rhyming stories, whimsical activities, and dress-up days inspired by Dr. Seuss, encourages a love for reading and creativity through one of the children’s favorite authors.

Community Helpers Week: Students meet real-life community helpers, such as firefighters, police officers, and doctors, to learn about different jobs and the importance of helping others.

These special weeks make learning interactive and exciting, creating memorable experiences that deepen understanding while fostering creativity, curiosity, and a love for school.
